Why did my saved progress disappear after I cleared my browsing history?

I was trying to fix a game that kept freezing so I went into Chrome settings and cleared everything, history, cache, cookies, all of it. Now every game on that site says I'm starting from level one again. Is there any way saves survive that or is it gone for good?
